Commercial Energy Assessments
As part of the government's plan to implement the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, Energy Performance Certificates have been introduced for commercial buildings, whenever they are sold or let; these are being rolled out in a phased manner from April 2008. Buildings included in commercial include offices, shops, industrial and warehouses that use energy to heat or cool.
The timetable for the phased roll out is as follows:-
6 April 2008 EPCs required for the construction, sale or rent of buildings other than dwellings with a floor area over 10,000 m2.
1 July 2008 EPCs required for the construction, sale or rent of buildings other than dwellings with a floor area over 2,500 m2.
1 October 2008 EPCs required on the construction, sale or rent of all remaining buildings other than dwellings.
Only qualified and accredited non domestic (commercial buildings) energy assessors can prepare EPCs for non domestic property.
